I HAVE NEVER PRACTICED YOGA BEFORE, WHERE SHOULD I START? - Everyone is welcome to both our Newcastle and Tuncurry studios, you can begin your journey anywhere, simply inform our teachers that you are new to the practice or returning after some time. The classes we offer are for men, women, old, young, injured etc - You may want to start with a hatha, mindful flow or yang/yin class, to learn alignment techniques and useful tips on how to practice safely - A yin, chair yoga or restorative yoga class is suitable for those who simply want to slow down and be in stillness - All classes and poses (asanas) can be modified to compliment the beginner (and the advanced) - Please take the time to read our class descriptions or ask one of our friendly staff members if you are unsure - Our 'introductory offer' is a great place to start - 10 days of unlimited yoga for $30.00
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ON MY FIRST VISIT? - Nothing, but a whole lot of love! - Please allow 10 - 15 minutes to arrive and settle in to the space - There may be a few regulars or advanced yogis in the room, there is no need to fear and please don’t be intimidated, we are all learning (teachers included) and we are all focusing and working through our own 'stuff' - Both our Newcastle and Tuncurry studios are intimate and boutique, which means class volume ranges from 6 (personal) - 25 students (an energetic experience)
SHOULD I BOOK INTO A CLASS ONLINE, OR JUST SHOW UP? - We would encourage you to download the mind body app to your phone or create a free account on your desktop - here you can book and pay for all of your classes and (workshops), see each style of yoga and who is guiding that particular class each day - Mindbody is quick, easy and simple, and makes you accountable for your daily practice - We accept cash payments (preferable) or credit cards (sorry, no amex) - We require at least 60 minutes notice (on your behalf) for all cancellations via mind body please. Our Sunday Yin & Yoga Nidra class (Newcastle) requires 6 hours notice for all cancellations. If you do not cancel with 6 hours notice you will be charged a late cancellation fee/no show fee of $15.00 - A waitlist will be activated if classes are full and if a cancellation occurs mind body will send you an email stating you have been accepted into the class (if for some reason you are then unable to attend, please cancel your booking) - you can also track this update via your mind body app
YOGA ROOM ETIQUETTE - Please leave your shoes at our front door - Bags and phones are not allowed in the studio space, please leave them in your basket on silent or switch to airplane mode (this includes smart watches too, as they can be very distracting for both the teacher and fellow students) - Respect your body and work within your limits and rest whenever you need - If you are unwell (the flu or chest infection etc), please rest at home until you are feeling well again - We strongly encourage you to bring your own yoga mat to class for hygiene reasons or you can hire one from reception for a gold coin donation - We ethically source our retail products and help support small, local, growing businesses along the way - we stock yoga mats, bolsters, blocks, straps and eye pillows
POST NATAL KEY CONSIDERATIONS - Our Monday 10am class (Adamstown studio) is aimed at women who are 6-8 weeks post partum and it is our belief that yoga practice should only be begun after post partum bleeding has ceased. - Babies welcomed until they're significantly mobile. - This class is intended to help support you in recovering from post labour fatigue, tone abdominal organs, and build up energy again. - Mum's are most welcome to attend, even if they have their baby in care with someone else (this is a post partum class after all). - Please bring along any items you need for your baby - these are totally acceptable to have with you during class. - If you had a c-section delivery, you'll need to modify and occasionally avoid some postures for a little longer than those who had a vaginal birth. - Experienced students of yoga are encouraged to be careful when rebuilding strength and not over work. Yoga after delivery is different. Even if you feel back to "normal" the reproductive organs are still adjusting and slowly returning to their natural state, hence it is imperative to not be overeager. Too much activity too soon may not cause an immediate problem, but could later on contribute to potential concerns. - Refrain from strenuous activity for the first 6 weeks. Restorative and supported yoga and breath work is ok from here. From 6-12 weeks one can begin a more active practice. - Please make the teacher aware if you're suffering from any physical condition that may inhibit your recovery, if you suffered any physical trauma during labour, and/or have suffered any Post Partum depression. - Please note, we will be leaving our front door 'open' during this particular class time. If Mother's are running late or need to leave early for any legitimate reason, we support and encourage that within reason.
